This exhibition presents a selection of works by Irish artists and artists who are based in Ireland who have come to prominence in the last two decades. Although Ireland had the youngest population in Europe for a time in the second half of the last century, this demographic has changed significantly in the last two decades. The challenges facing artists working at this time are presented in a variety of media including painting, installation, photography and new media. The exhibition concentrates on recent acquisitions to the Museum’s Collection by artists such as Martin & Hobbs, Gerard Byrne, Phil Collins, Stephen Brandes, David Timmons, Clare Langan and Grace Weir. Their work, and that of the other artists in this exhibition, offers valuable insights into the interests and preoccupations of a particular generation of Irish artists who have come to maturity in the age of globalisation, personal computers and cheaper foreign travel.

An exhibition guide accompanies the exhibition (price €1.00).
