The exhibition Altered Images is the result of a partnership initiative of Mayo County Council Arts Office, South Tipperary Arts Service and the Irish Museum of Modern Art’s National Programme. Accessible, interactive and inclusive in ethos, Altered Images aims to stimulate engagement with the visual arts for the general public and particularly those with a disability. The exhibition aims to enhance people’s engagement with the works through the tactility of 3 dimensional relief models and by listening to the audio and artist’s descriptions. The exhibition is accompanied by a catalogue which is available in large print, audio and Braille and a specially designed website. www.alteredimages.ie
The aim of this seminar is to reflect on the experience of the partnering institutions and to explore the challenges, practical issues and resources involved in delivering an exhibition of this scale. Speakers are invited to share information on their individual experiences, participants include: Marcus Dickey Horley, Curator of Access Projects, Visitor Services Manager, Tate Modern; Anne Hornsby, Audio Describer, Mind’s Eye; Anne McCarthy, Arts Officer, Mayo County Council; Orla Moloney, The Arts Council An Chomhairle Ealaíon; Padraig Naughton, Director, Arts and Disability Ireland; Damien O’Connor, Disability Arts Coordinator, Mayo Arts Office; Sally O’Leary, Arts Officer, South Tipperary County Council; Loz Simpson, Model Maker, Topografik.
Please note that lunch will not be provided. It’s a bagel café will be open from 10 am – 5pm. The café is located in the basement area and is fully accessible.
This seminar is free of charge but booking is essential. It is important that you notify us of any access requirements by 7th June so adequate provision in terms of materials in alternative formats, facilities or personnel can be made in advance of the seminar. This includes: sign language interpreting, loop system, speed text, large print or Braille.
