Guided Tours of Current Exhibitions

These informal tours provide a general introduction to exhibitions at IMMA.

Tour times:
Wednesday 1.15pm, Saturday and Sunday 2.30pm.

Each tour lasts 30 minutes.Please arrive early for tours as numbers are limited (max 20).

No booking required. Tours may not take place if other Education & Community Projects/Talks/Lectures/Events are in progress.
Please inquire at reception on the day.

Pre-booked Guided Tours, Tuesdays to Fridays 9.30am - 11.30am

Guided tours are available for special interest groups including schools, colleges and adult education. Take a walk through any of our exhibitions exploring a variety of themes, the guided tour will pull together connections and meaning from distinct parts of our exhibitions. Every tour is different.

Tour times:
Tuesday to Friday at 9.30am; 10:00am, 10.30am, 11.00am and 2.30pm.

Booking required. Maximum School group size 32. Two adults should accompany each school group. Maximum Adult group size 50.

Tours are led by IMMA staff and are free of charge except for occasional temporary exhibitions - students in full time education are exempt from this charge.

Specialised Tours - Irish Language, Audio Description and Touch Tours

In addition to our regular tours IMMA offers a range of specialised tours including Irish language, Audio Description and Touch tours. We welcome all groups and can tailor tours to your needs.

Heritage Week Tour

Visit Dublin's deadliest place, Bully's Acre.
Sunday 31 August at 2pm
Historic Properties presents a tour of this little-known graveyard in the grounds of the Royal Hospital Kilmainham. This is a unique tour of the (almost) last resting place of Robert Emmet and many generations of Dubliners - commoners, businessmen, captains, privates...even the sons of kings.

The Old Man's House exhibition is open throughout Hertitage Week running from 23 to 31 August (the exhibition is closed Monday 25 August). Admission free.

Family activities during the summer months

Family Workshop - Mornings at the Museum
Wed, Thu, 10 - 11am / until 28 August
Twice a week families are invited to drop-in for a free introduction to our current exhibitions where children and parents can explore artworks and making art together. Meet at the main reception.

Babies in Buggies, Parents with Prams
Fri, 10:45 – 11:30am / until 29 August

Parents with babies in strollers can join us for a free tour of selected artworks from the current exhibitions. Drop in to the main reception.

Talking Points
Tue, 10 – 11am / until 26 August, weather dependent

We’ll be out and about in the gardens and grounds during the summer, and we’ll be delighted to talk to you about the outdoor artworks and history of the Royal Hospital site.
