Ryoji Ikeda was born in 1966 in Japan and currently lives and works in New York. His albums +/- (1996), 0? (1998), and the recent Matrix (2001), have been hailed by critics as the most radical and innovative examples of contemporary electronic music. Since 1995 he has created sound installations, recordings and concerts. The versatile range of his work is demonstrated by collaborations with choreographer William Forsythe/Frankfurt Ballet; contemporary artist Hiroshi Sugimoto; architect Toyo Ito and artist collective Dumb Type , among others. Ikeda received the Golden Nica prize at Prix Ars Electronica 2001 in the Digital Music category.
