Callum Innes
Callum Innes' exhibition is part of an ongoing strand of programming at the Irish Museum of Modern Art, which aims to bring important new international art to Ireland, as well as responding to new developments in art in Ireland.
Callum Innes is internationally recognized as having made a significant contribution to the field of contemporary abstract painting. He works largely in monochrome and his process is one of abstraction as he applies and then removes paint from the surface to produce works with an enigmatic, meditative quality.
For this exhibition, Innes will show a carefully selected body of new and recent work, including paintings from the 'Exposed' and 'Resonance' series and watercolours. Callum Innes was born in Edinburgh in 1962 where he now lives and works. In 1998 he won the prestigious NatWest Art Prize and the Jerwood Prize, and was shortlisted for the 1995 Turner Prize. He has exhibitied internationally, throughtout Europe and in America, and has recently had a solo exhibition at the Ikon Gallery, Birmingham.
