Sol LeWitt:
New Wall Drawings
For this exhibition Sol LeWitt, one of the leading Conceputal artists of the past 40 years, has creating a new series of colour wall-drawings, based on repeating an open cube structure in a sutie of rooms at the Museum.
As with all of LeWitt's work, the installation involves precise shapes, simple rules and a procedural approach to their creation.
Born in Connecticut in 1928, LeWitt has been a highly influential figure since his work in the 1960s helped crystallise one of the most significant developments in art in the late 20th century.
LeWitt has described his approach to art as being one where "the idea or concept is the most important aspect of the work....The idea becomes the machine that makes the art."
A publiciation documentating the installation is available during the exhibition (price £3.00 €3.80)
