Hannah Starkey: Photographs
Photographer Hannah Stakey constructs complex, yet seemingly fleeting, images that primarily portray women's encounters with other women and their environment.
All the images are constructed within a contemporary urban environment, and respond to everyday, human experience.
Using actors to reconstruct and manipulate scenes, Starkey suggests narratives based on chance experiences and personal impressions of the shifting structures and values of contemporary society.
For the exhibition at IMMA, Starkey is showing a new series of photographs made during 1999, put into context by a selection of her earlier work.
Hannah Starkey was born in Belfast in 1971 and studied in Scotland and England.
A publication will accompany this exhibition with an essay by Val Williams, British photographic critic.
