Scraping the Surface..., Tallaght Community Arts Centre

Scraping the surface… was part of a series of works which Kindness created while he was based in New York using ‘treasures’ which he found in the city. Kindness has said that he is interested in the detritus of human life and in this work he has etched a familiar New York taxi cab door which he found abandoned in the street. The yellow paint of the door is scraped away and the scratched metal is then darkened with a metal oxide, resulting in a black image on a yellow background – reminiscent of classical Greek vases.

This exhibition includes five works by Kindness from the IMMA Collection. A series of workshops with a group of young adults from Tallaght is being facilitated in response to this exhibition as part of the Branching Out programme supported by National Irish Bank.
