Triskel Arts Centre, Co Cork
Unveiling
by Janine Antoni is being shown as a work in focus to celebrate the reopening of the newly refurbished Triskel Arts Centre. The work is a bronze sculpture made from a cast of the aritst's own head and sholders which is hung at a level equal to her own height. The artist's own body is central to Antoni's work, which transforms everyday bodily rituals into a scuptural process. Ideas of absence and presence as well as a playful element of 'hide and seek' are presented in the work. Antoni's aim is to stimulate this kind of intimate contact with the body in order "to redefine or locate the body within our culture".
