Lecture:Morton Feldman and the Visual Arts

Saturday 17 April 2010, 5.00pm Lecture Room, IMMA

Composer Dr. Bunita Marcus’s keynote lecture Morton Feldman and the Visual Arts,  has unfortunately been cancelled.

Dr. Marcus was forced to withdraw as flight restrictions following the volcanic ash cloud over Europe have prevented her from traveling to Ireland. The Irish Aviation Authority Director of Operations has warned disruption for air traffic will continue as the volcano is still active and may present further safety challenges.

IMMA would like to extend their deepest apologies for this situation, and will reschedule the lecture as soon as possible. Information on the new date will be circulated when this has been confirmed. If you require further information please contact talksandlectures@imma.ie , or telephone Sophie Byrne, Assistant Curator: Education and Community Programmes.

Thank you for your understanding and interest in this event; apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused. We hope to see you at IMMA for the rescheduled event.

Lecture

Composer Dr. Bunita Marcus presents a keynote lecture on Morton Feldman’s longstanding relationship between his music and the visual arts; focusing particularly on the evolution in notation and how it was influenced by the visual arts. Dr. Marcus met Morton Feldman in 1976, beginning a long association that lasted until his death in 1987.  For seven years they were inseparable.  Feldman and Marcus composed side by side, sharing musical thoughts and ideas.  In 1985 Feldman dedicated his new piano composition: "For Bunita Marcus."  Today, Dr. Marcus lectures, coaches and writes regularly on Morton Feldman's music.
