Changes to Access at IMMA

Visitors are asked to note that, regrettably, during a recent review of lighting, security and fire safety systems in the main building at the Irish Museum of Modern Art, carried out by the Office of Public Works, it was found that the museum does not currently have adequate provision for the safe egress of non-ambulant disabled people.

For this reason, IMMA is required to limit access for wheelchair users and other lift-dependent visitors to the ground floor  and basement of the building until completion of the renovation works scheduled to commence in November 2011.

This means that lift-dependent visitors will not be able to visit the  Twenty:Celebrating 20 Years of the Irish Museum of Modern Art  exhibition in the First Floor Galleries. However, the works in the Barrie Cooke exhibition which are located in the West Ground Floor Galleries and the exhibition Out of the Dark Room: The David Kronn Collection in the New Galleries are fully accessible. A virtual tour of the exhibition Twenty  is available to view, please click arrow link" hspace="0" src="/en/siteimages/arrow2.gif" align="baseline" border="0" /> (External) here to access the tour.

The museum’s café and bookshop are fully accessible by all visitors.

The Museum greatly regrets this inconvenience to visitors. However, these restrictions are necessary to enable IMMA to comply with its statutory obligations under the Fire Services Act (1981) – the Act and related information can be found on the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government website on (External) .
