Jered Sprecher

Process Room, 08.08.07- 19.08.07

Jered Sprecher, Process Room, IMMA, 2007

Jered Sprecher, Process Room, IMMA, 2007

Jered Sprecher’s studio practice is based in the diversity of visual culture. He is a hunter and a gatherer, constantly accumulating images produced by the people and cultures around him. From this collection of visual information Sprecher teases out fragments of these images to form his paintings. The sources they are drawn from are evolving and changing and the paintings are caught in that “still” moment of change. They are emptied out, but still hold onto elemental details of where they came from and perhaps where they are going. It is out of the fast pace and vast turnover of modern imagery and information that Sprecher takes on the challenge to trace the heredity of these images. He extracts elements that resonate with a sense of vital meaning and seeks to use this wide language of visual marks and notations to describe that which humanity has in common, be it humor, mortality or a yearning to understand what is beyond.
