What is…? Talk Series : What is Installation Art ?
This talk series provides a general introduction to key concepts and themes in contemporary art. Niamh Ann Kelly, Lecturer in the School of Art, Design & Printing, Dublin Institute of Technology, presents a paper on the subject of Installation Art. This talk is supported by an information leaflet which includes summary information about the topic, an essay and supplementary resource material including bibliography, resources and a glossary of terms.

Seminar: Altered Images & Modes of Practice
The aim of this seminar, Altered Images: Modes of Practice is to reflect on the experience of the partnering institutions and to explore the challenges, practical issues and resources involved in delivering an exhibition of this scale. Speakers are invited to share information on their individual experiences, participants include; Damien O’Connor, Arts and Disability Officer, Mayo Arts Office. Marcus Dickey Horley, Curator of Access Projects, Visitor Services Manager, Tate Modern, Orla Moloney, Arts Council (Chair); Padraig Naughton, Director, Arts and Disability Ireland; Loz Simpson, Topografix (model maker); Anne Hornsby, Mind’s eye (audio describer) and Anne McCarthy, Mayo Arts Officer.

Artist Response: The Grass is Always Greener on the other side
Mark Joyce, the Irish painter and IADT lecturer will speak from the context of his own practice, exploring classic tropes found in manifestos of artists and composers in the Modernist period and how this may inform Morton Feldman’s relationship to the Visual Arts.

Artist's Talk: Carlos Garaicoa
Cuban artist, Carlos Garaicoa has been working since the early 1990s using a multidisciplinary approach that includes architecture, urbanism, narrative, history, and politics to explore notions of 20th-century utopias. To mark the exhibition preview, of works by Garaicoa at IMMA, the artists discusses his interests in urban planning and a citys architectural social fabric, which Garaicoa often illustrates through large installations using various materials such as crystal, wax candles and rice-paper lamps.

Lecture : Bunita Marcus
Composer Dr. Bunita Marcus presents a keynote lecture on Morton Feldman’s longstanding relationship between his music and the visual arts; focusing particularly on the evolution in notation and how it was influenced by the visual arts. Dr. Marcus met Morton Feldman in 1976, beginning a long association that lasted until his death in 1987.

Film Screening : Wide Details - Francis Alys
Screened in association with the current exhibition, Le Temps du Sommeil by artist Francis Alys in the east ground galleries at IMMA, this short documentary film by Julien Devaux, features Belgian born contemporary artist Francis Alÿs who has lived in Mexico City for the past fifteen years. The film, Wide Details, invites the viewer to discover Ayls’s ongoing singular artistic work as a painter, photographer, video artist and urban interventionist.

In Conversation : Anne Tallentire & Jaki Irvine
In a conversation between artists Jaki Irvine, and artist Anne Tallentire, both artists will discuss the work of Tallentire in the context of the exhibition, Anne Tallentire: This and other things 1999-2010, and questions such as ephemerality, work, everyday life and other themes that inform the overall practice of Tallentire. This will be followed by an outdoor screening of a series of single screen video works by Tallentire, in association with Temple Bar Cultural Trust, in Meeting House Square, Temple Bar.

In Conversation: Sarah Pierce & Marguerite O’Molloy
In an open exchange, artist Sarah Pierce and curator Marguerite O’Molloy will discuss their use of archives as an entry point in their respective practices. Drawing on personal experiences, they will critique the various methodologies adopted by artist and museum to record, document and conserve temporal experiences of artworks from a museum’s collection. Please note this event has been rescheduled from its orginal date of Tuesday 6 April.
