What lies beneath the surface, Tipperary Institute of Technology, Thurles
Tipperary Institute of Technology, Thurles, Co Tipperary
This exhibition focuses on paintings from the IMMA Collection from the figurative to the abstract. It explores the physical nature of the painting process and the importance placed by some artists on the building of layers to create definition and texture within their work. What lies beneath the surface presents work by artists such as Robert Ballagh, Mark Francis, Louis le Brocquy and Patrick Scott.
Founded in 2000, the Tipperary Institute Arts Forum actively promotes, supports and creates access opportunities to the arts at both local and national level. The Arts Forum regularly organises exhibitions at the Tipperary Institute Thurles Campus and has initiated the establishment of a Tipperary Institute Art Collection – The Rural Ireland Collection. In addition, it has also overseen the selection and installation of public art at both it’s Thurles and Clonmel campuses under the Per Cent for Art Scheme in 2001/2002.
The exhibition is accompanied by a series of gallery talks aimed at second level certificate art students.
