(Edition for Parkett 4)

This exhibition of artists’ editions covers a wide range of world famous artists. Curated by the editors of ‘Parkett’, the international art magazine, and focusing on the multiple, the exhibition dispenses with the idea of the art object as a luxury by creating works which are affordable as well as interesting and beautiful. Here the art object instantly changes from a prestige object, available only to the privileged few, to something all can aspire to own and enjoy.

The exhibition covers a wide variety of practices with 127 works by artists ranging from the ground-breaking surrealist Meret Oppenheim to such influential painters as Gerhard Richter and Brice Marden. It also includes a range of younger cutting-edge artists – Doug Aitken, Vanessa Beecroft, Mariko Mori and Pipilotti Rist. Over the past 18 years the editors of ‘Parkett’ have collaborated with numerous artists, producing an extraordinary array of prints, page-art projects, photographs, drawings, painting multiples, videos, DVDs, sound pieces and other inventive formats. While most are small in scale, and imbued with the fascination that comes with miniaturisation, others expand across the space of a billboard. When they are encompassed in one gallery space, a concise survey of international contemporary art unfolds.

Beautiful Productions has also been shown at MoMA, New York, and the Whitechapel Gallery, London.

The exhibition is catalogued by a set of full colour postcards of the works in the exhibition, with an introduction by Dieter von Graffenreid and texts by Deborah Wye, Chief Curator, Department of Prints and Illustrated Books, MoMA, New York and by writer Susan Tallman(price €27.00).
