Mark McGreevy’s work falls into a hybrid form of painting containing real, imagined, abstracted energetic compositions combined with images from a collective conscious to the personal, woven together to present a theme of modernity. His paintings become a battle with order, as much about the painted world coming to life, scratched out or simply erased and how that life insists on bursting out, refusing containment.
The work in the process room is a selection of drawings which I will rotate on a daily bases, taken from a larger collection of drawings, paintings, collage, found and appropriated imagery which is filtered through into larger scale paintings on canvas. The formal qualities of the large wall painting is diametrically opposite to the paintings on canvas which have a chaotic beginning which solidifies into a semi composed image. The wall painting is a projected image from a much smaller piece made from paper and card loosely based on architectural motifs, geodesic domes and underground structures like nuclear bunkers, geographical cross sections or ant farms, these images carry a certain cultural significance which I hope viewers will identify with and with their own personal references find new threads of association within the image.
