James L Hayes | IE

A Production Partnership with the National Sculpture Factory, Cork

Hayesís current research practice, aims to examine modernist sculptural traditions, in particular the significance of the late Barry Flanaganís sculptural practice and its legacy. Hayesís exploratory sculptural works will be developed in response to a wide range of relevant archival material collected from Flanaganís estate. As part of this research it is envisaged that a number of documentary and investigative works will be created which will act as vignettes, capturing traces of the sites of production of Flanaganís work.

James L Hayes is a visual artist whose practice is multi-faceted. His research interests range from contemporary interpretations of sculptural legacies to site-specific interventionist works, which draw from traces of significant pasts and histories. Hayes often elevates humble motifs, objects and symbols to celebratory status through the use of material, scale , kinetics and via the use of the multiple. Hayes has recently completed a number of large-scale site-specific public art works most recently for the Arts Council of Northern Ireland. He is currently developing a long-term research project with the National Sculpture Factory in Cork. He is a graduate of Limerick School of Art & Design, De Montfort University Leicester and the University of London. He currently lectures in Sculpture at the CIT Crawford College of Art in Cork, Ireland.
