Bridget O’Gorman & Sue Rainsford | The Freud Project Residency

Bridget O’Gorman is a visual artist whose work highlights destabilised or haptic deterioration within the lives of objects. Working with video, the sculptural object and live events, her enquiries focus on methods of connecting the corporeal or visceral to the inanimate to inform a dialogue around contemporary experiences of uncertainty. Recent exhibitions include In The Flesh at The Lab Gallery IE 2016, Telling the Bees at the Galway Arts Centre IE 2015 and On Beauty at the Roscommon Arts Centre. She was recently selected to develop a new body of work as part of the Wheatley Bequest Fine Art Fellowship at Birmingham School of Art. She is the recipient of the Arts Council Visual Arts Bursary Award in 2016 and 2014.

Sue Rainsford is a writer and researcher whose practice is concerned with hybrid texts and radical experience, as well as the intersection between visual and literary arts practices. She is a graduate of Trinity College, IADT and has completed an MFA in Writing & Literature at Bennington College, Vermont US.  She is editor of the limited edition publication Some Mark Made and recipient of the VAI Critical Writing Award 2017.

In response to The Freud Project the experimental collaboration which is O’Gorman and Rainsford will explore themes of flesh, texture and speech with an emphasis on gender, probing an antidote to vapid depictions of flawless perfection in contemporary world.

Bridget O’Gorman & Sue Rainsford are recipients of The Freud Project Residency selected through Open Call in spring 2017
