IMMA Collection: Lucian Freud / Reading GroupSaturdays: 21 October / 25 November / 9 December 2017 11.30am - 1.30pm, Meeting Point – IMMA Main Reception In conjunction with the TCD - TRIARC & IMMA: Lucian Freud Lecture Series (2017 – 2018), a monthly reading group will be held at IMMA and its onsite Freud Centre over the coming months. Led by writer and researcher Nathan O'Donnell, these monthly sessions take their cues from the talks series, with a selection of readings that pursue tangents and illuminate aspects of Freud's life and work. These sessions are open to all. No specialist knowledge is required; participants must simply be willing to get engaged in conversation. Booking Requirements This reading group will have access to the Freud Centre alongside the current exhibition of more than 50 of Freud's works, and is informed by the museum's research programme, offering an informal and conversational way to shed new light on the meaning and significance of Freud's work in the present. FURTHER INFORMATION Nathan O’Donnell is a writer of fiction and criticism, and co-editor of the journal of contemporary art criticism Paper Visual Art. He has published in The Dublin Review; New Irish Writing; The Manchester Review; gorse journal; The Irish Times; Apollo; this is tomorrow; and Architecture Ireland among others. He is editing the reissue of the radical avant-garde magazine, Blast, for Oxford University Press, and he has written and presented widely on magazine histories. He teaches as part of the MA Art in the Contemporary World programme at NCAD. IMMA & TCD Talk Series / 18 October 2017 - April 2018 Keynote events rotate on a monthly basis between venues at IMMA and TCD, concluding with a major symposium in April 2018. Each session introduces a distinct topic on this seminal artist’s work. Speakers include; Martin Gayford (Art Critic/Author UK), Yvonne Scott (TRIARC TCD), Angela Griffith (TRIARC TCD), Isabelle Graw (Städelschule, Frankfurt), Noreen Giffney (Ulster University) Christina Kennedy (IMMA), Nathan O’ Donnell (Paper Visual Art-PVA), Daphne Wright (Artist) and others. | |
