These informal tours provide a general introduction to exhibitions in the New Galleries. Tuesday 2.30pm, Wednesday 2.30pm, Thursday 2.30pm, Friday 2.30pm, Saturday 12noon and 4.00pm, Sunday 2.30pm. Each tour lasts 30 minutes.

No booking required. Tours may not take place if other Education & Community Projects/Talks/Lectures/Events are in progress. Please inquire at reception on the day.

Guided Tours

Guided tours are available for special interest groups including schools, colleges and adult education.

These informal tours provide a general introduction to the exhibitions at IMMA at NCH. Tours may not take place if other Education & Community Projects/Talks/Lectures/Events are in progress. Please enquire at reception on the day.

Afternoon Tours
Tuesday 2.30pm, Thursday 2.30pm, Saturday 2.30pm and Sunday 2.30pm. Each tour lasts 30 minutes. No booking required.

Lunchtime Tours

Wednesday and Friday at 1.15pm. Each tour lasts 30 minutes. No booking required.

Tours are led by IMMA staff. All tours are free of charge. Please arrive early for tours where no booking is required as numbers are limited.

Booking an IMMA Guided Tour

The Irish Museum of Modern Art’s exhibitions programmes are based in two separate locations – the New Galleries in the grounds of the Royal Hospital Kilmainham, D8, and the ground floor exhibitions spaces in the National Concert Hall building in Earlsfort Terrace, D2. The move to the NCH building is due to extensive refurbishment works being carried out at the main building at the RHK in 2012.

IMMA offers pre-booked Guided Tours at both locations.

  • Teachers, tutors or group leaders can book guided tours of IMMA's exhibitions for their students/groups.

  • Each tour is led by IMMA staff.

  • Guided tours are free and last 45 minutes approximately. There are set times for guided tours: Tuesday, Thursday and Friday at 10.00am, 11.45am and 4.00pm and Wednesday at 11.45am and 4.00pm.

  • Two adults should accompany each school group (Max. 32 pupils).

  • Tours must be booked at least three weeks in advance of your intended visit. Please contact the museum should you have difficulty meeting these requirements at tel: +353-1-612 9900 or email: frontofhouse@imma.ie

  • All children and school groups must be accompanied by an adult throughout the tour.

  • The adult to children/school group (aged 18 and under) supervision ratio is 1:16. Please contact the museum should you have difficulty meeting these requirements.

  • Lunch room facilities for Primary School Groups:
    IMMA at Kilmainham: A basement room near the café is available for children eating packed lunches. Please book online as part of the tour booking process.
    IMMA at NCH, Earlsfort Terrace: Please request by contacting Katy Fitzpatrick at tel: 01-612 9914.

  • If due to unexpected circumstances your tour date needs to be changed, the Museum will contact you to arrange a new date.

Booking an IMMA Guided Tour

IMMA Primary School Programme

From 20 February until 17 May 2013, the IMMA primary school programme will take place at IMMA’s New Galleries, Royal Hospital, Kilmainham, Dublin 8.

  • The IMMA Primary School Programme lasts 2 hours and includes a guided tour followed by an artmaking workshop.

  • Each visit is led by IMMA gallery staff, the Mediators.

  • Participating teachers can download a set of notes regarding the exhibitions that children will visit, exploring themes in selected artworks and suggesting starting-points for art projects back in the classroom.

  • There are set times for Primary School Programme tours: at 10:00am on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and 10:30am on Wednesday.

  • Tours must be booked at least three weeks in advance of your intended visit. (If you need to book in less than three weeks, please contact Katy Fitzpatrick at email: katy.fitzpatrick@imma.ie to check availability)

  • All children must be accompanied by an adult throughout the tour. At least two adults need to accompany 32 children.

  • The maximum number of children per tour is 32.

  • A fee of €25.00 is charged for the Primary School Programme. However, if your school is listed on the DEIS Scheme, there is no charge.

  • New Galleries, Royal Hospital Kilmainham and IMMA at NCH at Earlsfort Terrace are fully wheelchair accessible.

  • Buses can drop off and pick up at Earlsfort Terrace but cannot park. Buses may wish to park on Nassau Street, please click hereclick here for further information on parking. Buses can park at the Royal Hospital Kilmainahm.
